Our students are enthusiastic about our online genealogical courses. However, many new students are unsure of where to begin. Which courses should they take first? "In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage -
to know who we are and where we came from. Without this enriching
knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments
in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most
disquieting loneliness." -- Alex Haley, Roots
Welcome everyone to the home of the Stark County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society on the web. Since our inception in 1973 our mission has been to bring together all people with an interest in genealogy as a hobby or a profession. We mainly accomplish that mission by the three ways that are mentioned below.
Our website is one of the ways that we are trying to reach out to the public and fellow members in order to provide them with information about the society as well as resources that we can host on our site or direct them to. This will be a bigger focus as we try to put more things online for both guest and member alike. It has started with a redesign of the site in order to provide visitors with an easier to use interface and also to allow us to expand the site with new content down the line.
It will now be easier for us to provide you with updates via the latest news page which will also be able to be subscribed to by anyone who wants to keep up with society and website news. Prospective members can now join through PayPal and current members may also renew online as well.
Please check the latest news page for anything new and don't forget to subscribe to get all the latest posts sent to your feed reader or your email. Don't forget that we are on Facebook so if you want to you can get a hold of us on there too.
The Stark County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society meets on the third Thursday from March through November.
Unless otherwise stated, meetings are held in the Innovation Center on the second floor of the Stark County District Library located at 715 Market Ave. North, Canton, OH. Our meetings usually consist of a business meeting followed by a speaker. Visitors are always welcome. The next upcoming meeting may be found on the right sidebar, and all scheduled meeting may be found on the Calendar page.
AUG 2022 Update: As the Main Branch is no longer open on Thursday evenings, until further notice, meetings that would otherwise be held at the Main Library will be held at the North Branch on 25th Street.
Our Newsletter is another way that we can communicate our mission and give our fellow members additional resources and advice that will help them on there genealogical journey. Each issue gives the society news along with insightful articles on different genealogical methods and resources available to you.
The newsletter is published four times a year and is one of the benefits of becoming a member of the society. If you would like to know more about the benefits of membership please go to our membership page to see how you can become a member today.
