We will be touring the library and will also have time for research so don’t forget to bring your family trees with you and also check out the OGS Library Catalog to see what they have to offer. Details are as follows:

9:00 a.m. We will be meeting at the overflow parking lot of the Trinity United Church of Christ for anyone wishing to car pool or caravan to the library.  This is the parking lot between Blackburn and Fulton Roads that is beside the church where we have our monthly meetings.  If you wish to carpool with someone you know it would be good to arrange that ahead of time to save time but it is not necessary.  Also if you wish to drive to the library seperately from the group that is ok just make sure to get there by the time we start the library tour.

10:30 a.m.  We will begin our introductory tour of the library.  This should last about 30 to 45 minutes and give a good overview of whats there.

11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  This is time where you can begin your research or explore the library.

12:30 p.m. This is the time that I have reserved at the Dutch Heritage Restaurant that is right up the road.  It is a amish homestyle restaurant where we will have lunch.

After lunch you are free to go back to the library for as long as you wish. You are welcome there for the rest of the day or you may leave directly from the restaurant the choice is yours.

There is no charge for entrance to the library for the group and they have wireless internet so please bring your research laptop with you.

Please use the links below for more information on the library and I hope to see you all there.  Thanks.

Recent Changes to the Website

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share with you guys some of the recent changes that have been made to the website.

I have just updated the monthly meeting programs page to reflect the programs I have so far and also the fact that we will be visiting the new OGS library in July instead of our annual picnic and also that we will be having our annual banquet at the Massillon's Woman's Club this year.  I also renamed it simply monthly meeting programs page, if you want to take a look at the updated page you can click here.

You may notice now that we have a calendar on the left hand side of the website.  This is our new events calendar which at this time has all of our monthly meetings on it for this year.  If you click on the red date it will show you a pop-up with the date and time of the event along with a brief description of the event and a link to a latest news post about the event.  Please note that some of the post links will not work because I have not published them to the website yet.  Posts will now be published automatically to the site 7 days before the event or earlier if it is required.

Last I would like to announce that we have a First Families of Stark County page on the website now.  It has a brief description of the lineage society along with links to the application and rules and procedures documents you would need to submit your own genealogy to the society.  There is also a listing of the recipients into the society sorted by the year they were accepted.  If you would like to visit the page you can find it easily on the navigation bar of the site titled "First Families of Stark County".

Anyways there are a couple of the changes so far so I hope you are all doing well and i hope to give you more news soon.

Stark O.G.S. Annual Banquet Information

Hi everyone,

I know this is a little last minute but I wanted to let you know about all the details concerning our Annual Banquet on November 11th.  It will be held at the Canton's Women's Club and dinner will be served at 6:30p.m.  Your menu choices are a pork tenderloin with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli or a vegetarian lasagna with roasted broccoli.

The program for the night will be given by Christopher Kenney from the Mckinley Museum and is entitled Let Us Ever Remember...McKinley's Presidency Through Film.  This program chronicles the presidency of William Mckinley through rarely film clips from the time and should be very interesting.

The charge for the dinner is $15 dollars and will be needed at the time of the banquet.  We need you to confirm your reservation by Tuesday the 9th at the very latest so that we can have an accurate number to give to the women's club.

You can confirm by emailing the treasurer Martha Mertz at treasurer@starkcountyogs.org or you can call me at any time at 330-477-6125.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at any time and I hope to see you all at the banquet.

Sincerely,
Timothy Houck
Vice-President, Stark County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society
